Ms. Kapadia and her 6 man posse
The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society present my class with a Gold Pennant (meaning we collected over $500) and a pizza party. Our class earned the award for most money per capita (total amount divided by the number of kids). This came to $163.15 per student. As you can see from the pictures below there are only 6 students and they were able to accomplish this wonderful deed.
Thanks for all your support!
A Light hearted game between teachers and students
Can you guess who scored 35 and who scored 10? If you guessed students 35 and teacher 10 you were correct. Fun was had by all. A lot of limping teachers the following day. :-)

TRMS Spelling Bee 2012
A group of twenty talented spellers and their supportive fans gathered in the library Wednesday, March 21st for the 2012 Thomas Russell Spelling Bee. The competition was intense as the group worked their way through round after round of challenging words. Spellers were eliminated by words with increasing difficulty like: zigzaggedness, lugubrious, kangi, and orthographize.
The last three spellers standing were Kinbert Chou, Brent Baculi, and Genesie Quiliza Castellano.
After battling back and forth , Kinbert won the bee by correctly spelling quadrilateral. Brent Baculi and Genesie Castellano placed 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Trophies and awards were given and a pizza party is in the future for these fantastic spellers along with a few of their friends.
Congratulations to all the great spellers, fans, and family members who made the bee a big success.

TRMS is Honored at the Board Meeting
The Milpitas Unified School District’s Accountability Model, Focus on Success (FOS), identifies indicators that help measure the progress the school district is making towards achieving goals set forth in its Strategic Plan. At the October 11, 2011 Board meeting the 2010-11 results were shared with the Milpitas education community. Thomas Russell was honored for increasing the percentage of Hispanic and/or African American students meeting proficiency on CSTs by 10% or higher over a 5-year span and for increasing the API similar schools ranking. Russell achieved "Top Honor" for this and will proudly display the banner at the entrance of our school.
Lee National Denim Day At TRMS
Physical education teacher Krissa Baylor, with the support of students and staff at Thomas Russell Middle School, raised $1,502.85 for Lee National Denim Day Oct. 7. They began participation in the annual fund-raiser in 2004, after Baylor was diagnosed with breast cancer. The school has since raised more than $5,000 total for the cause. Since its first year in 1996, Lee National Denim Day has raised more than $83 million for the fight against breast cancer and unites nearly one million supporters each year. Read this story in an upcoming issue of the Milpitas Post November 4, 2011.
